TermDefinition
Food Chain The path of food energy from one organism to another in an ecosystem.
Food Web A connection of food chains with many food energy paths in an ecosystem.
Flow of Energy The transfer of energy through a chain or web, beginning with the producer.
Predator An organism that hunts and feeds on another organism.
Prey An organism that is hunted and killed by another organism for food.
Carnivore An animal that gets its energy from eating other animals only.
Herbivore An animal that gets its energy from eating plants only.
Omnivore An animal that gets its energy from both animals and plants.
Decomposer An organism that gets its energy by eating dead organisms, nonliving materials, or waste.
Nocturnal Active at night.
