α1 Constriction of smooth muscles Blood vessels (vasoconstriction); pilorectors in skin (goosebumps); sphincters (bladder, GI); uterus (contraction); eye (contraction of the radial muscle)
α2 Inihibition of sympathetic autonomic ganglia (decreases SNS) Pre-synpatic ganglionic neurons; GI tract
β1 Increase cardia preformance & liberation of energy heart; fat cells (release for energy); kidney (release renin to conserve water)
β2 Relaxation of smooth muscles and liberation of energy Lungs (bronchodilation); blood vessels in muscles (vasodialation); uterus (uterine relazxation); GI (Intestinal relation); bladder (relaxation); liver (glucose release via glycogenolysis)
nicotinic (N) "Nerve to nerve" and "nerve to muscle" communication sympathetic and parasympathetic ganglia; NMJ
muscarinic (M) to oppose most sympathetic actions at the levels of the organs bronchoconstriction (lung); slow heart rate, decreased conduction & contractility; relaxation of sphincters in GI & bladder; Contraction of GI; billary constriction; Contraction of the circular & cilary muscle; secretions in lacrimal, salivary & bronchial
