Unit 7.1 Biology Vocabulary

base The middle part of the DNA that pairs up (there are 4 of these)
cell cycle Consists of 2 stages; one stage is when the cell grows & the second stage is when the cell divides & reproduces itself
chromosome Made up of DNA and protein
DNA A nucleic acid found in the nucleus that contains the information about how a living organism will look and function
gene The sections of DNA that carry the specific traits - hold the information to build and maintain an organism's cells and pass genetic traits to offspring
mutation A change in the DNA sequence of a gene
nucleotide Nucleic acids are made up of many nucleotides; includes a sugar, a phosphate and a nitrogen base
replicate To make a copy; DNA replication is when the DNA is copied
