QuestionAnswer
Cell Membrane Controls the movement into and out of the cell
Cytoplasm Watery material which contains many of the materials involved in cell metabolism. This refers to all contents of the cell other than the nucleus.
Endoplasmic Reticulum Serves as a pathway for the transport of materials throughout the cell. Also associated with syntheses and storage. . . .'the highway of the cell'
Nucleus Serves as the control center for cell METABOLISM and REPRODUCTION. It contains the DNA.
Ribosomes Sites of PROTEIN SYNTHESIS. Makes proteins using DNA
Lysosomes Involved in the digestion of food within the cell. Contains enzymes. It digest food particles, wastes, cell parts, and invaders. . . . 'cleanup crew'
Mitochondria The 'powerhouse' of the cell... that is it provides energy for the cell's activities. This energy is called ATP
Golgi Apperatus..... Golgi Complex Packages and secretes the products of the cell.......packages proteins for use, or to be released from the cell
X xx x Involved in cell division in animal cells
Vacuoles Fluid filled organelles enclosed by a membrane. Contains stored food or wastes . . . 'storage tanks for food, water, and wastes materials'
Nucleolus Site of the production of ribosomes . . . 'the little nucleus'
Nuclear envelope Controls movement into and out of the nucleus
Cell wall Gives the cell its shape and provides protection. Not found in animal cells
Cilia Hairlike structures with the capacity for movement
Flagella A long, hairlike structure used for movement
Chloroplast Site of photosynthesis ..... [[contains chlorophyll. Stores food and provides color in plants.]
X x x During cytokinesis, the new cell wall that begins to form in the middle, dividing the 2 sides
Microtubule Rod shaped bodies that carry genetic information . . . .(shape the cells, guide organelle movement, and separate chromosomes)

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
