Interphase Consists of G1, S, and G2 phases
G1 phase Cell grows
S phase DNA Replicates (copies itself)
G2 phase Last minute preparation before mitosis begins
Prophase Chromatin condenses into chromosomes; first time chromosomes are visible
Metaphase Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
Anaphase Chromosomes split into sister chromatids
Telophase Nuclear envelopes reform; cleavage furrow seen in animal cells; cell plate seen in plant cells
Cytokinesis Two new genetically identical daughter cells created
