| Synapsis; | centromere where each chromosome lines up with its homologous pair and become attached. |

| Disjunction; | separation of homologous chromosomes. |

| Homologous chromosome; | chromosomes that are paired one from each parent, and that are similar in lenght, gene position and centromere location. |
| Crossing over; | process in genetics by which the two chromosomes of a homologous pair exchange equal segments with each other. |
