| Ovum/ova; | the female reproductive cell ( egg ) . |

| Zygote; | is a fertilize egg. |
| Tetrad; | is a group of four chromatids. |
| Synapsis; | centromere where each chromosome lines up with its homologous pair and become attached. |
| Fertilization; | union of an egg and sperm. |
| Disjunction; | separation of homologous chromosomes. |

| Homologous chromosome; | chromosomes that are paired one from each parent, and that are similar in lenght, gene position and centromere location. |
