What make up a nucleotide? A phosphate groups, a sugar molecule, and a nitrogen base
What letters do enzymes end in? “Ase”
How do enzymes speed up a reaction? By lowering the activation energy?
Is an enzyme used up during the reaction? No
What is an enzyme also used as? A catalyst
What is the part of the enzyme where the substrate finds or attaches to? The active site
Why are proteins diverse? They are made of amino acids that can link up in different combinations
What do nucleic acids have? Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, & Guanine
What are other terms used to describe monomers? Building blocks, Subunits
WHat could affect the enzyme’s actions? Change in temperature, change in pH level
What is a base? A liquid with a pH above 7
What is an acid? A liquid with a pH below 7
What does “denatured” mean? The enzyme is unfolding
Can an enzyme work if it is denatured? No
If the 3-D shape of an enzyme is distorted, can it still catalyze a reaction? No
What will boiling liver do? Denature the enzyme
