Chapter Eleven Vocabulary ELS

coworker A person who works for the same company
Employee Handbook A book describing the rules of a company
Fired To be dismissed from a company
Probation period A test period when a worker must prove to a company that they can do a job.
Labor union An organization of workers who do similar jobs.
Punctual To be on time
Deadline The latest time when something must be done.
Shift A work period in a company
Human Resources Department A part of a company that handles employee work-related issues
Resolve To settle a disagreement
Peer pressure Urging from others to do something
Harassment Repeatedly bothering or annoying someone.
Career plan A step-by-step way to reach your career goal
Performance assessment A report that rates how well you do your job.
Promotion A new job with more responsibility and more pay.
Layoff A period of time when a company has no work for their employees
Unemployment benefits Money and services that are available to unemployed workers seeking a new job.
