Cell Transport

QuestionAnswer
Osmosis Movement of water from high to low concentration; no energy required
Hypotonic A solution with a lower solute concentration; cell swells; water enters the cell
Hypertonic A solution with a high solute concentration; cell shrinks; water leaves the cell
Isotonic A solution with the same solute concentration; Cell stays the same; water leaves and enters the cell
Semi-permeable Membrane A barrier that allows certain molecules to pass through but not others
Passive Transport The movement of particles from high to low concentration with no energy required
