Unit 5 Biology

Unit 5 Biology Vocabulary Words

TermDefinition
Amino Acids The building blocks of proteins.
Carbohydrates Molecules that give the body quick energy. (Ex: sugar)
Enzymes A substance produced by the body that helps to speed up a reaction. (Ex: these help the body digest food)
Lipids Any group of organic compound, including that fats or oils. These are used for long-term storage.
Proteins Molecules that are made of amino acids and are used to make tissues in the body.
Substrate The substance on which an enzyme acts. Each enzyme has a specific substrate that fits. Just like a key only fits one lock.
