Cytoplasm notes

half of the motes for the cytoplasm section in the essentials of human A&P

QuestionAnswer
Explain the Cytoplasm The cytoplasm is the cellular material inside the plasma membrane and outside the mucleus, most of the cells activities occur here.
Function of fermentation To break down pyruvic acid and regenerate NAD+ for use in glycolysis.
2 forms of fermentation 1. Lactic acid2. alcoholic
Explain inclusions not functional units, they are chemical substances sometimes present, sometimes not. (i.e. melenin)
3 major element is cytoplasm 1. Cytosol2. Organelles3. inclusions
Explain the mitochondria kidney beaned shaped, power house of the cell, provides cells ATP
Explain organelles Meta Botic machinery of the cell "little organs" most are bound by a selectively permeable membrane, which allows then to maintian a different internal environment.
Explain cytosol Viscous semitransparent fluid with dissolved protein, sugar and salt.
3 stages of respiration Glycolosis, Krebs Cycle, Electron transport chain.
3 stages of aerobic respiration Trasition reaction, Krebs cycle, Electron transport chain.
Aerobic respiration equation C6H12O6+6O2 ----> 6H2O+6CO2+38ATP
Explain lactic acid fermentation (and equation) occurs in animal clls and some unicellular organisms, lactic acid is transported to the liver where it is converted to glucose pyruvic acid + NADH+H ----> lactic acid +NAD
Explain alcoholic fermentation (and equation) Occurs in some plant calles and some unicellular organisms such as yeast. Pyruvic acid +NADH+H+ ----> ethyl alcohol + CO2+NAD+

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
