Biology Vocab

TermDefinition
Observation information gathered by using one of the five senses
Inference deriving a conclusion based solely on what one already knows
Control Group The group that is not changed (experimentally) and will be used as a comparison
Quantitative Describing objects with numbers
Qualitative Describing objects with descriptions
stimulus something external that promotes an activity or response
response reaction to stimulus
Independent Variable the variable that is changed by the person conducting the experiment (x-axis)
Dependent variable variable that changes as a result of the independent variable. What is measured (y-axis)
Scientific method is a step by step process for experimental investigation in which a hypothesis is proposed and data collected
