Urinary System | consists of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and the urethra. The purpose of the urinary system is to eliminate waste from the body, regulate blood volume and blood pressure, control levels of electrolytes and metabolites, and regulate blood pH. |
Ureter | The ureter is a tube that carries urine from the kidney to the urinary bladder. There are two ureters, one attached to each kidney. |
Urethra | is a tube that connects the urinary bladder to the urinary meatus for the removal of urine from the body. In males, the urethra travels through the penis and also carries semen. |
Kidney | They receive blood from the paired renal arteries; blood exits into the paired renal veins. Each kidney is attached to a ureter, a tube that carries excreted urine to the bladder. |
Nephron | The nephron is the microscopic structural and functional unit of the kidney. It is composed of a renal corpuscle and a renal tubule |
