5th Grade Organism Ecosystem Roles

TermDefinition
Producer Organisms that make their own food. (example - plants, phytoplankton)
Consumer Organisms that eat other living things.
Herbivore A type of consumer that only eats plants/leaves.
Carnivore A type of consumer that only eats meat.
Omnivore A type of consumer that eats both plants and animals.
Predator An animal that hunts and eats other animals.
Prey Animals that are a food source for other animals.
Decomposers Organisms that break down or clean up waste and other dead things from an ecosystem.
