Chapter 9: Successful Relationships- VOCAB

TermDefinition
Personal Relationships Relationships you may have with your parents, close friends, and eventually with a marriage partner and your own children
Functional Relationships Relationships such as the ones with your teachers, employer, or fellow employees
Respect Seeing someone as a worthwhile individual
Stereotype Belief that all members of a group share characteristics that may only belong to some members of said group
Mutual Respect Shows that each of you accepts the other as a worthwhile individual
Trust Believing a person is honest and reliable
Openness Letting another person know your thoughts, opinions, and feelings
Empathy Caring for someone else and their feelings
Dating Gives people the opportunity to become close to someone of the opposite sex outside of their own family
Infatuation Powerful but short-lived attraction to another person
