The Cell Cycle

QuestionAnswer
Growth, duplication of cell structures, and normal metabolism take place. Stage 1 Interphase
Nuclear envelope and nucleolus disperse; chromatin fibers condense, forming chromosomes (paired chromatids); centrioles move to opposite sides of the cell. Stage 2 Prophase
Chromosomes align midway between centrioles. Stage 3 Metaphase
Microtubules pull sister chromatids toward centrioles. Stage 4 Anaphase
Chromosomes elongate and become chromatin fibers; nuclear envelopes reassemble. Stage 5 Telophase
Cell membrane constricts, dividing cell into new cells (daughter cells). Stage 6 Cytokinese
