| Alimentary canal | One way tube that begins in the mouth and ends with the anus. |
| Anus | The opening at the end of the alimentary canal through which solid waste matter leaves the body. |
| Chemical digestion | Large organic molecules are broken down into small simple molecules. |
| Esophagus | Is a tube that moves food from the mouth to the stomach by peristalsis. |
| Gall bladder | is a small hollow (hueco) organ where bile is stored and concentrated before it is released into the small intestine. |
| Hydrochloric acid | Destroys bacteria normally present in food and provides the proper pH for enzyme action. It is a component of the gastric juice in the stomach. |
| Large intestine | Receives undigested foods (wastes) from the small intestine. |
| Lipase | Enzyme that begins the chemical digestion of lipids |
| Liver | is a large organ that detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs. It also secretes bile that ends up back in the intestines. |
