Digestive System

Bolus Chewed food that is mixed with saliva
Salivary Glands Three pairs of glands that are located around the oral cavity that secrete saliva.
Monosaccharide Simple sugar. Glucose, Fructose, and Galactose
Disaccarides Complex sugars that must be broken down into Monosaccarides before being digested.
Polysaccarides Starches. Long chains of sugars that are chemically bonded. They must be broken down into Monosaccarides in order to be digested.
Salivary Amylase A digestive enzyme that begins the chemical process by which sugar is changed into simple sugar.
