| Biochemestry | the branch of science concerned with the chemical and physicochemical processes that occur within living organisms. |
| Element | a thing that is composed of two or more separate elements; a mixture. |
| Compound | compounds that both carbon and hydrogen |
| Organic Compound | are compounds that contain both carbon and hydrogen |
| Inorganic Compound | The principal inorganic compounds found in living things are water,salts, and inorganic acids, and bases. |
| Carbohydrates | are the main source of energy for the cell activities. |
| Lipids | include fats and oils |
| Proteins | are made up of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen |
| Enzymes | are proteins that act as catalysts in living cells |
| Nucleus acids | a complex organic substance present in living cells, especially DNA or RNA, whose molecules consist of many nucleotides linked in a long chain. |
| Hydrolysis | the chemical breakdown of a compound due to reaction with water. |
| Synthesis | the production of chemical compounds by reaction from simpler materials. |
| pH | is a measure of hydrogen ion concentration, a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. |
| Atom | the basic unit of a chemical element. |
