| ATP | is a molecule that carries energy within cells. |
| Cellular Respiration | is a set of metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the cells of organisms to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into adenosine triphosphate. |
| Fermentation | the chemical breakdown of a substance by bacteria, yeasts, or other microorganisms, typically involving effervescence and the giving off of heat. |
| Glycolysis | the breakdown of glucose by enzymes, releasing energy and pyruvic acid. |
| Mitochondria | an organelle found in large numbers in most cells, in which the biochemical processes of respiration and energy production occur. |
