QuestionAnswer
Organism A living thing that has (or can develop) the ability to act or function independently.
Response A bodily process occurring due to the effect of some antecedent stimulus or agent.
Stimulus A detectable change in the internal or external environment.
Cell The basic structural and functional unit of all organisms.
Autotroph A plant capable of synthesizing its own food from simple organic substances.
Heterotroph An organism that depends on complex organic substances for nutrition.
Eukaryote An organism whose cells are organized into complex structures enclosed within membranes.
Prokaryote A unicellular organism having cells lacking membrane-bound nuclei.
Homeostasis The ability of a system or living organism to adjust its internal environment to maintain a stable equilibrium.
Spontaneous Generation A hypothetical organic phenomenon by which living organisms are created from nonliving matter.
Multicellular Consisting of many cells
