| cell membrane | the semipermeable membrane surrounding the cytoplasm of a cell. |
| diffusion | is the net passive movement of particles (atoms, ions or molecules) from a region in which they are in higher concentration to regions of lower concentration. |
| osmosis | is the special case of diffusion involving water molecules. |
| fluid mosaic model | A model that describes the structure of cell membranes. |
| concentration gradient | is the process of particles, which are sometimes called solutes, moving through a solution or gas from an area with a higher number of particles to an area with a lower number of particles. |
