Cell Transport
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Phospholipid | A lipid that is bound to phosphate, makes up majority of cell membrane |
| Cell Membrane | Also called plasma membrane, regulates what enters/exits cell |
| Fluid Mosaic Model | Way to represent cell membrane |
| Passive Transport | Moves from high to low concentration, no ATP used |
| Active Transport | Moves from low to high concentration, uses ATP |
| Diffusion | Type of passive diffusion, moves from high to low concentration |
| Osmosis | Water diffusing across a membrane |
| Facilitated Diffusion | Diffusion through a gated channel/membrane spanning protein |
| Hypertonic | Solution with more higher concentration |
| Isotonic | Solution with same concentration |
| Hypotonic | Solution with lower concentration |
| Membrane Spanning Protein | Part of cell membrane, allows things to go through that wouldn't be able to pass through phospholipids |
| Concentration | Amount of solutes per the amount of solvent |
| Hydrophobic | Repels water |
| Hydrophillic | Attracted to water |
