Cellular Structure
A lesson on cellular structure and functions of organelles
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Cell membrane | An organelle responsible for what comes into and out of a cell |
Cytoplasm | A liquid base within a cell that holds organelles and allows for electrical impulses made by the organelles to communicate |
Ribosomes | An organelle responsible for the production of proteins |
DNA | Genetic information stored within the cell responsible for the cell's behavior |
Nucleus | An organelle that holds DNA and is responsible for the control of the cell |
Endoplasmic Reticulum | An organelle that occurs with either a smooth or rough surface that is involved with transportation of material |
Lysosomes | An organelle that contains digestive enzymes responsible for riding the cell of wastes and damaged cells (only found in animal cells) |
Mitochondria | An organelle that is the center for cellular respiration and the producer of ATP energy |
Vacuole | An organelle that stores food, water, and waste |
Golgi Apparatus | An organelle responsible for the folding or manipulation of proteins to make them usable |
Vesicles | An organelle used for the transportation of materials from one cell to another |
Cell Wall | An organelle that is used as protection and structure for a cell(only found in plant cells) |
Chloroplast | An organelle responsible for the process of photosynthesis (only found in plant cells) |
