Cell Transport
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Semipermeable | allows some particles in and out of the cell |
| Cell Membrane | maintains homeostasis & regulates what goes in and out |
| Diffusion | Movement of molecules from high to low concentration |
| Osmosis | Movement of water from high to low concentration |
| Facilitated Diffusion | Use of a carrier protein to transport molecules |
| Passive Transport | Movement with no energy |
| Active Transport | Movement with energy; going against the gradient |
| Isotonic | equal movement of water in and out of cell; no size change |
| Hypertonic | Less water outside of cell; cell will shrink |
| HypOtonic | More water outside the cell; cell will swell |
| Exocytosis | Moving molecule out of the cell; Exit. Needs energy |
| Endocytosis | Moving molecules inside the cell; IN; Needs energy |
| Solutes | Suck water towards it |
| Equilibrium | Cell is equally balanced |
| Passive Transport Examples | Osmosis, Diffusion, Facilitated Diffusion |
| Active Transport Examples | Endocytosis, Exocytosis, Pumps |
