What are the three types of areas off our coastline? Rocky Shores (corona del mar), Sandy beaches(huntington beach) and Bay Harbors(dana point marina)

What causes tides? Gravitational pull from the sun and the moon
What is a Spring tide? Extreme tide when the sun and the moon is in direct alignment
What is a Neap tide? Low tide that occurs when there is a 90 degree angle between the sun, earth an moon
What is the major current that affects our coasts? The california current which is a colder current brought in from the north
What are waves? Disturbances that move in or on the water created locally or miles away
What is the temperature of our local beaches? low 50's and highs to mid 70's
What are factors that control marine life? extreme tides,dispersal,predation,light,dry periods,UV light damage,
What are the four zones found on the rocky coast? Spray Zone, High Tide Zone, Middle Tide Zone and Low tide Zone
What are the general problems experienced by animals on the rocky shore? Substrate, water depth and light
