alveoli the tiny air sacs of the lungs
bronchi two short tubes that carry air from the trachea to the left and right lung
carbon monoxide an odorless, colorless gas sometimes found in the air
diaphragm a sheetlike muscle that separates the inside of your chest from the intestines and other organs of your abdomen
emphysema a lung disease that result in the breakdown of alveoli
epiglottis a small flap that closes over the windpipe when you swallow
excretory system the body system made up of those organs that rid the body of liquid wastes
nephron a tiny filter unit of the kidney
pneumonia a lung disease caused by bacteria, virus, or both
respiratory system the body system made up of body parts that help with the exchange of gases
trachea a tube about 15 centimeters long that carries air to two shorter tubes called the bronchi
urea a waste that results from the breakdown of body protein
ureter a tube that carries waste from a kidney to the urinary bladder
urethra a tube that carries liquid wastes from the urinary bladder to outside the body
urinary bladder a sac that stores liquid wastes removed from the kidneys
urine a waste liquid that reaches the ureter
