consumer organism that obtains energy by feeding on other organisms
herbivore consumer that eats only plants

omnivore consumer that eats plants and animals
scavenger a carnivore that feeds on the bodies of dead organisms
decomposer breaks down the wastes and dead organisms and returns the raw materials to the ecosystem
food chain series of events in which one organism eats another and obtains energy
food web consists of many overlapping food chains
energy pyramid shows the amount of energy that moves from one feeding level to another in a food web
evaporation process by which molecules of liquid water absorb energy and change to a gas
condensation process by which a gas changes to a liquid
precipitation rain, snow, sleet or hail
dispersal movement of organisms from one place to another (wind, water or living things)
climate typical weather pattern in an area over a long period of time
biome group of land ecosystems with similar climates and organisms
continental drift as the earth's plates move, the continents also move with them in this process
