Heredity

TermDefinition
Heredity The passing of traits from parent to offspring
Genetics The study of how traits are inherited through the interaction of alleles
Alleles Alternate forms of a gene
Phenotype The set of observable characteristics resulting from the genetic code present in DNA
Genotype The genetic code present in DNA
Gene Locus The location of a particular gene on a chromosome
Chromosome A threadlike structure of nucleic acids and protein, carrying genetic information in the form of genes.
Homozygous A condition in which the genetic code is the same on homologous pairs.
Heterozygous A condition in which the genetic code is different on homologous pairs.
