QuestionAnswer
uses energy to combine smaller molecules to make larger ones: anabolic
catabolic releases energy: true or false true
the second law of thermodynamics says: when energy is transferred, some i lost as kinetic energy or heat energy
if endergonic is taking in energy, then exergonic is: releasing energy
photosynthesis is "uphill" because... it requires energy to combine smaller molecules to make larger ones *(CO2 + H2O = glucose)
true or false: any substrate can fit in any enzyme false: they have to match; each substrate is unique and will fit only the matching enzyme
what is activation energy? it induces the reaction by providing the required amount
cellular respiration is what kind of reaction and why? it is a redox reaction b/c oxidation and reduction both occur simultaneously.
oxidizes pyruvate to make carbon dioxide citric acid cycle
what is ATP made up of? one adenine, one ribose, and three phosphate
what does ETC stand for and what does it do? electron transport chain: pumps protons into the inter membrane space of the mitochondria (by chemiosmosis)
define glycolosis: when glucose id divide into two pyruvates
cellular respiration is anaerobic or aerobic? aerobic
anaerobic does not use what gas? oxygen

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
