What does flight require a great amount of? energy & oxygen
Why are there different wing types?Different purposes. Wing shape & surface area, air speed & angle all combine to provide an upward push for flight. Gliding, Soaring, Rapid Takeoff, Hovering
What are contour feathers? strong, lightweight feathers that give shape and coloring
What are barbs? parallel strands that branch off of the main part of the feather
What do contour feathers help the bird to do? move through air & water; steer & keep in control
What are down feathers? trap and keep warm air next to bird body
