1. Heredity The passing of physical characteristics from parents
2. Trait Each specific characteristics
3. Genetics The scientific study of heredity
4. Fertilization A new organism begins to form when egg and sperm cells join.
5. Purebred An organism that is the offspring of many generations that have the same form of a trait
6. Gene Used to describe the factors that control a trait
7. Alleles The different forms of a gene
8. Dominant Allele One whose trait always shows up in the organism when the allele is present
9. Recessive Allele On the other hand, is hidden whether the dominant allele is present
10. Hybrid A hybrid organism has two different alleles for a trait
11. Probability A number that describes how likely it is that an event will occur
12. Punnett Square A chart that shows all the possible ways alleles can combine in a genetic cross
13. Phenotype An organism's physical appearance, or visible traits
14. Genotypes An organism's genetic makeup, or alleles
15. Homozygous An organism that has two identical alleles for a trait
16. Heterozygous An organism that has two different alleles for a trait
17. Incomplete Dominance Occurs when one allele is only partially dominant
18. Codominance Occurs when both alleles for a gene are expressed equally
19. Multiple Alleles Some genes have this, which means that three or more possible alleles determine the trait
20. Polygenic Inheritance Occurs when more than one gene affects a trait
21. Meiosis The process by which the number of chromosomes is reduced by half as sex cells form
