producer An organism that produces it's own food through the process of photosynthesis.
consumer An organism that consumes other organisms, plants or animals, for energy.
decomposer An organism that breaks down dead plants and animals for energy.
predator An organism that hunts other animals.
prey An organism that is hunted for energy.
herbivore An organism that eats only plants.
carnivore An organism that eats other animals.
omnivore An organism that eats both plants and animals.
food chain A simple diagram showing the flow of energy through organisms.
food web A complex diagram showing the flow of energy through organisms.
energy pyramid the model of energy flow in a community
autotroph an organism that uses energy from the sun to make its own food
heterotroph an organism that eats other organisms for energy
