angia means container
sporangia means spore container
rachis A frond's a central stalk
pinnae The leaflets that attach to the rachis
sori clusters of sporangia containing the spores that will grow into new ferns
prothallus tiny, heart-shaped plantlet, hard to see
rhizoids roots that absorb water and nutrients from the soil
archegonia the female parts of the prothallus, containing the eggs
antheridia the male parts on the prothallus, little bumps on the base
fiddlehead the new fern just beginning to develop
rhizomes runners along the ground of ferns
clones having the exact same DNA as the plant that made it
gemma little packet of cells made by some ferns in their prothallus stage.
