autotroph self feed
heterotroph gets its nutrional requirements from organic substances
chemoautotroph an organism that gets energy from inorganic substances
photoautotroph an organism that gets its energy for food synthesis from light

ingestion taking food in ; absorption
digestion process of breaking down food by mechanical actions
egestion getting rid of solid waste ( metabolic waste )
roughage indigestible material in vegetables that aids the passage of food and waste products through the gut.
cellulose organic compound
body mass index a measure of body fat
absorption the process or action by which one thing absorbs or is absorbed by another
diffusion movement of molecules from high concentration to low concentration
villi are small, finger-like projections that extend into the lumen of the small intestine
constipation bowel movements that are infrequent or hard to pass
enzyme a substance produced by a living organism that acts as a catalyst to bring about a specific biochemical reaction.
macromolecules a molecule containing a very large number of atoms
bulimia A serious eating disorder marked by binging, followed by methods to avoid weight gain.
anorexia An eating disorder causing people to obsess about weight and what they eat.
