Immune system The cells and tissues that recognize and attack foreign substances in the body
pathogens organisms that cause disease
white blood cells Blood cells that perform the function of destroying disease-causing microorganisms
antibodies Specialized proteins that aid in destroying infectious agents
antigen A protein that, when introduced in the blood, triggers the production of an antibody
macrophage Large white blood cell that removes bacteria, foreign particles, and dead cells
allergies oversensitive immune system
Lymphatic system Composed of a network of vessels, ducts, nodes, and organs. Provides defense against infection.
