| white blood cells | Blood cells that perform the function of destroying disease-causing microorganisms |
| antibodies | Specialized proteins that aid in destroying infectious agents |
| antigen | A protein that, when introduced in the blood, triggers the production of an antibody |
| macrophage | Large white blood cell that removes bacteria, foreign particles, and dead cells |
| allergies | oversensitive immune system |
| Lymphatic system | Composed of a network of vessels, ducts, nodes, and organs. Provides defense against infection. |
