This section covers definitions associated with genetic mutations.

somatic mutations affects body cells, rather than gonadial cells (more frequent in the elderley)
mutagens factors which increase the rate of mutations (eg, radiation, high temperatures, some chemicals)
mutations changes in either chromosomes or genes
non-disjunction when homologous chromosomes fail to separate during meiosis 1 - forms a gamete with an extra or missing chromosome

deletion during crossing-over, parts of the chromatids are lost
translocation the chromatids are rejoined to the wrong chromosomes
duplication segments of chromosomes are repeated
involution segments are attached upside-down
