| Evaporation | the process of turning from liquid to vapor |

| Precipitation | the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses |
| Transpiration | release of water vapor from plant's leaves into the air |
| Runoff | precipitation that runs off the ground |
| Groundwater | water held underground in the soil or in pores and crevices in rock |
| Source | place where a stream or river begins |
| Mouth | place where a stream or river ends by flowing into another body of water |
| Velocity | distance water flows during some period of time |
| Bed Load | sediment carried along the bottom of the channel of a stream or river |
| Tributaries | a river or stream flowing into a larger river or lake |
| Topography | the arrangement of the natural and artificial physical features of an area |
| Gradient | slope of a river channel |
