Cells

TermDefinition
Cell membrane The covering that protects a cell from the outside world
Cell wall The stiff wall that surround a plant's cell
Vacuole The sac in a plant cell that holds materials such as water
Chloroplast An organelle in plant cells that makes food from sunlight for the plant.
Mitochondria Referred to as the powerhouse of the cell: Creates energy for the cell to use.
Endoplasmic reticulum Assembles proteins.
Nucleus The brain of the cell.
Nucleolus A part within the nucleus that is important for mitosis.
Lysosome An organelle that digests food for the cell.
Cytoplasm The jelly-like fluid in a plant cell.
Ribosome Creates proteins for the cell to use.
