Parts of Cells
Parts of cells and their functions.
| Part of Cell | Function |
|---|---|
| Vacuole | Holds food, water, waste-Storage structure |
| Lysosome | Breaks down carbohydrates, proteins and lipids-Digestion. |
| Ribosomes | Assemble proteins. |
| Golgi Complex | Stores/Packages chemicals. |
| Cytoplasm | Material between nucleus and cell membrane. |
| Nucleus | Control center- Hold genetic information. |
| Nucleolus | Ribosome production. |
| Nuclear Membrane | Surrounds the nucleus. |
| Cell Membrane | Controls what goes in/out of cell. |
| Mitochondria | "Power house"-Energy |
| Smooth Engoplasmic Reticulum | Internal transportation. |
| Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum | Transports with ribosomes. |
| Centriole | Involved in mitoses. |
| Cell Wall | Protection/Holds shape. |
| Chloroplast | Stores chlorophyll and is involved with photosynthesis. |
| Cilia/Flagella | Hairlike structures used for movement. |
| Cell Plate | During cytokinesis, the new cell wall that begins to form in the middle, dividing the two sides. |
| Chlorophyll | Traps light and is used to produce food for plants. |
| Genes | Units of heredity. |
| Nuclear Pore | Minute hole in nuclear membrane. |
| Plastid | Stores food or contains pigment, |
| Microtubule | Microscopic cylinders that support and give the cell shape. |
