Parts of Plant and Animal Cells

Endoplasmic reticulum A folded organelle that makes proteins
Vacuole a large sac like organelle that stores excess food, waste and other substances
Cytoplasm Jelly like material that fills the cell and surrounds the organelles. Food and oxygen move through this to the organelles
Chloroplasts Found only in plant cells. membrane bound organelles that contain a green substance called chlorophyll
Photosynthesis uses the suns energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into sugar (food) and oxygen
Cell Wall Only in plant cells. Rigid structure that surrounds cell membrane. Provides cell with strength and support. Materials pass in or out of the cell through pores
ribosomes Tiny organelles that help make proteins. There are many of these organelles in the cytoplasm.
lysosomes break down food and digest waste
vacuoles in animal cells sac-like organelles that store excess food, waste and other substances. Animals cells have several small ones
