QuestionAnswer
What happens during Day 1 of blastocyst development? zygote undergoes cleavage and travels down fallopian tube
What happens during Day 2 of blastocyst development? cleavage continues: 4-12 cells/blastomeres
What happens during Day 3 of blastocyst development? Morula 12-32 cells
What happens during Day 4 of blastocyst development? about 40 cells fluid from uterine cavity enters the blastcyst and divide and separate the blastomere into trophoblast and embryoblast
What happens during Day 5 of blastocyst development? hatches from zona pellucid and floats in the uterine cavity
What happens during Day 6 of blastocyst development? implantation, trophoblast differentiates into cytotrophoblast and synctiotrophoblastDecidual reaction begins during implanation
What happens during Day 7 of blastocyst development? Burrowing- syncytiotrophoblast sends projections through endothelium into connective tissueembryoblast differentiates into 2 layers: hypoblast and epiblast
What happens during Day 8 of blastocyst development? amniotic cavity develops w/in epiblast
What happens during Day 9 of blastocyst development? cells from hypoblast migrate to line the blastocyst- exocoemlomc membrane (aka Heuser's)-blastocyst cavity is now called exocoelemic cavity- site of immplantation is marked by coagulation plug
When cells from the hypoblast migrate to line the blastocyst cavity, what is the new cavity named? exocoelemic membrane or Heuser's membrane
What happens during Day 10 of blastocyst development? -exocoelemic cavity enlarges and is called the primitive yolk sac or umbilical vesicle-extraembryonic mesoderm forms-beginning of lacunar networks
What is the cavity at Day 10? primitive yolk sac/umbilical vesicle
How and where does the extraembryonic mesoderm form? connective tissue from umbilical vesicle/yolk sacb/w cytotrophoblast and exocoelemic cavity
What happens during Day 11 of blastocyst development? -extraembryonic mesoderm increases-isolated spaces appear w/in embryonic mesoderm-blastocyst is completely embedded
What happens during Day 12 of blastocyst development? -lacunar networks begin to develop-communication b/w maternal sinusoids and trophoblastic lacunae are established
What happens during Day 13 of blastocyst development? -primary chorionic villi begin to develop-primary yolk sac pinches off to form seondary yolk sacextraembryonic mesoderm differentiates into extraembryonic somatic and splanchnic mesoderm
What happens during Day 14 of blastocyst development? -prechoral plate develops- future site of mouth-only a remnant of primary yolk sac remains
What does the bilaminar disc consist of? hypoblast and epiblast
What is the cavity at Day 9? Exocoelemic cavity
What is the cavity at Day 8? amniotic cavity
