| Respiration | Organisms obtain energy in nutrients (ATP) |
| Aerobic | Requires oxygen |
| Anerobic | No oxygen needed, much less energy |
| Synthesis | Combine simple substances and use to replace or repair parts. |

| Excretion | Rid cell of metabolic waste as a result of chemical activity (sweat) |
| Regulation | Control and coordinate cell activity |
| Reproduction | Make more, procreate, increase number of species |
