LE-Scientific Method

Terms used in SCientific Method

TermDefinition
Hypothesis A testable possible explanation of a phenomen
Variable A quantity to be measured in an experiment
Dependent Variable The quantity being studied. It value depends on another factor.
Theory An explanation of the natural world that is supported by repeated testing
Scientific Law A phenomenon that is always true; often mathematical in nature
Independent Variable The factor a scientist manipulates in an experiment
Control The baseline data used for comparison. No changes are made to it.
Scientific Method Process used to systematically solve problems
Conclusion Based upon experimental data. It supports or does not support the hypothesis of an experiment.
Experiment A test or series of tests designed to gather data on a hypothesis
