Producers -Base of all ecosystems.
Photosynthesis -Photosynthesis uses light energy to make food (glucose). -Photosynthesis is a two-part chemical reaction. --Light reaction --Dark reaction
Light Reaction -Uses sunlight to split water.
Dark Reaction -Makes glucose from CO2.
What is Photosynthesis? -Biochemical process of producing energy. --Sun splits water molecules (hydrolysis) inside the plant. --Carbon Dioxide is then added to the reaction. --Result is glucose which the plants use for fuel. --Oxygen is also a product which animals use.
Photosynthesis formula -6CO2 + 6H2O = C6H12O6 + 6O2
Photosynthesis and Leaves -Photosynthesis occurs in the leaves of plants and is synthesis reaction. -In the leaves structures called chloroplasts is where photosynthesis takes place.
Photosynthesis: Chloroplasts -Photosynthesis occurs in chloroplasts. --Similar in structure to mitochondria. -Thylakoids organize the reactions.
Leaf Structure -Water -Roots -Xylem -CO2 -Atmosphere -Stomata -Phloem carries glucose produced.
Stroma -A fluid in the structure.
Thylakoids -The discs inside the chloroplast.
Granum -A stack of the discs inside the chloroplast.
