What is a Clade? A group that contains an ancestor and all descendants
What is a primitive characteristics? A character which is relatively unchanged from its ancestral form
What is a derived characteristics? Traits which are heavily modified from ancestral forms
What are homologous characteristics? Characters which are similar because they were derived from a common ancestor
What are analogous characteristics Products of convergent evolution
Give a axiom-typical example of analogous characters birds and bats wings
What is convergent evolution? Where two distinct lineages evolve similar traits due to similar selection pressures
What are vestigial characters? Characters from an ancestor which no longer have a function
