chapter 6-2
Mitosis and cell division
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| binary fission | a form of asexual reproduction that produces identical offspring |
| cell cycle | a repeating cycle of growth for most eukaryotic cells |
| mtosis | when the nucleus of a cell is divided into 2 nueclei w/ same # and kinds of chromosomes |
| interphase | period of growth between two miotic or meiotic divisions of a eukaryotic cell |
| spindle fiber | network of hoolow protein cables that form between seperated centrioles and move chromosomes apart. |
| prophase | stage of mitosis where chromosomes condence and become visible, nueclear envelope breaks down and spindle fibers become visible |
| metaphase | a stage of mitosis and meiosis when chromosomes line up on the equator of the cell. |
| anaphase (mitosis) | stage of cell division where chromosome copiwa seperate |
| telephase (mitosis) | stage of mitosis where a new nueclear envelope forms and spindle fibers disapear |
| kinetochore | disk of protein on a chromosomes centromere where chromosomes attach during mitosis and meiosis |
