Reproduction B1

What is sexual reproduction? Where genetic information from two organisms is combined to produce genetically different offspring.
What are gametes? Sex cells (egg and sperm cells).
How do chromosomes explain variation in a species? The mixture of half of the chromosomes from the mother and the other half from the father creates genetically unique offspring with some characteristics from each parent, causing variation.
What is asexual reproduction? Where a parent cell is split down the middle to form two identical sets of half chromosomes that a membrane forms around, allowing the remaining DNA to replicate itself to produce the rest of the needed X chromosomes.
What are some uses of asexual reproduction? It's how animals and plants grow and replace cells.
Give an example of an organism that use asexual reproduction to produce offspring. Bacteria.
