Food webs and symbiosis
| Term | Definition |

| habitat | an environment that provides the things a specific organism needs to live, grow and reproduce |
| abiotic factors | non-living parts of an organism's habitat |
| biotic factors | living or once living parts of an organism's habitat |
| autotroph | an organism capable of making its own food from using light or chemical energy |
| heterotroph | an organism that cannot manufacture its own food and obtains energy by feeding on other organisms |
| food web | the pattern of overlapping feeding relationships or food chains in an ecosystem |
| ecosystem | community of organisms that live in a particular area along with their abiotic factors |
| decomposer | an organism that gets energy by breaking down wastes and dead organisms |
| carnivore | a consumer that obtains energy by eating only animals |
| herbivore | a consumer that obtains energy by eating only plants |
