Chapter 18.1 vocab

ecology the study of interactions between organisms and the living and nonliving components of their environment
interdependence organisms interacting with other organisms in their surroundings and with the nonliving portion of their environment (their survival depends on these interactions)
ecological model used to represent or describe the components of an ecological system
biosphere the broadest and most inclusive level of organization ; the thin volume of Earth and it's atmosphere the supports life
ecosystem the biosphere is composed of these smaller units ; includes all the organisms and the nonliving environment found in a particular place
community includes only species of organisms ; all the interacting organisms living in an area
population focuses on the members or a single species ; all the members of a species that live in one place at one time
